Do you like my haikus?

Fish swim through the stream.

Treacherous waterfall waits

for them miles ahead.

King of the Jungle,

he who is called the Lion,

gave his crown to Ape.

Looking at the stars,

one cannot help but wonder,

How long and how far?

Strange are the seasons.

Winter is slow, summer fast;

the rest choose their speed.

The narcissus life.

He fancies himself a god,

but acts like a fool.

Home has three meanings:

A place for sleep, or for warmth,

and to some, a cage.

Do you like my haikus?

Why do women assume?

that because i am into body building that i am a narcissus?

i mean i like the way i look but i do not spend endless hours looking at myself. as a matter of fact the only time i am looking in a mirror is to shave.

Why do women assume?
Probably jealousy, first for how good you look (which may make them look bad in comparison), and second for you having the discipline to stick to the schedule - which takes time away from them. Or you could simply be a bit too proud. :) Wish I had your discipline.
Reply:Dont you assume all women think that way..
Reply:I don't think they assume... It's just that many women are not into men all prettied up like you.
Reply:I agree - it's more likely you are making up for a small penis.
Reply:It isn't a good idea to assume anything about anyone. Better to find out who they are as a person, than just look at the outside part (body) and think you "get" them.
Reply:you tell it like it is!!
Reply:lol. Can't stop laughing at what the Doctor steve guy said
Reply:I've never thought that. Maybe you need to hang around other women. It is narcissistic to ask this question about why women assume things about you, though.
Reply:Women should NOT assume that, but the sorry fact is that it's true more often than it is false. That means you get lumped into the category with all the rest. It's like any other stereotype.

Don't worry about it. Prove them wrong, that's all.
Reply:Then stop writing about your self... no body cares. or do they? dont think so .

This is from greek mythology.?

Who was Echo? Where did she come form? What was her curse or something like that.

Who was Narcissus? Where did he come from? Who was his mother? What was his Curse like Echo?

THE ANSWER HAS TO BE AT LEAST 5-9 LINES

:D

This is from greek mythology.?
I believe Echo was a nymph who was fond of talking and always wanted the last word. When Hera (queen of heaven and wife of Zeus) came down from Olympus one day looking for Zeus (whom she believed was amusing himself with some nymphs), Echo distracted her with incessant conversation. When Hera found out that Echo had tricked her so Zeus could make a getaway, Hera cursed Echo and caused her to lose the use of speech (which she had been so fond of) and left her only the power of echo...she could only repeat the last thing someone else had said.

She later fell in love with the beautiful youth Narcissus and tried again and again to speak with him, but as expected was only able to echo him. She grew so despondant that she hid in a cave and withered away until all that was left was her voice. That is the "echo" we know today.

On the other hand, Narcissus was so beautiful that he attracted many nymphs. When he had spurned yet another one, she wished that Narcissus might one day know what it unrequited love felt like. A goddess heard this prayer and decided to do something about it. Narcissus stopped at a stream to drink and saw a beautiful image reflected back at him. He tried to speak to the youth, he wouldn't reply. He tried to embrace the youth and the image disappeared, only to return later. Narcissus became enamored of the youth he saw in the stream (his own reflection) and eventually forgot to eat, drink or do anything else. He wasted away and eventually died. The nymphs were heartbroken and when they went to retrieve his body, they found only a white flower with a purple heart that we call today "Narcissus".

By the way, I have heard that Narcissus was either the son of the river god Cephisus and the nymph Liriope or the son of Endymion and Selene (goddess of the moon).
Reply:Narcissus...wasnt he a chap or chappess that could not stop looking at him/ herself in a pool of water and got turned into a flower? Hense the flower with that name is always located next to water? Echo.....wish I knew that one....
Reply:Ever consider doing your OWN research and homework?
Reply:Echo was a wood nymph in love with narcissus,a self-involved greek peasant who loved himself so much he starved to death gazing at his own reflection in a pool.Echo was very chatty and one day when zeus was out womanizing she detained hera by talking to her long enough that zeus got away , as a punishment hera condemned her to only be able to repeat the words of others.Echo died but her voice remains ,forever repeating the words of others.
Reply:You are an ungrateful child.

Do your own research intead of getting others to do it for you. You obviously need this for school, well the assigment was give to YOU so YOU do it. Click on those links and actually learn something.

Here's a shocker, you might enjoy it.
Reply:Give Charlene1 the ten points, spot on answer!
Reply:I agree with the above answer concerning Echo but I was taught in mythology class that Narcissus didn't starve. He gazed at his image so often (or better put) so closely that he fell into the pool

and drowned.

Reply:PRometheus (don't forget the R) - gave fire to man.

Icarus - tried to fly by creating wings stuck together with wax. Went too close to the sun and his son's (Daedelus) wings melted and he died.

Narcissus - fell in love with his own reflection in the water, a water nyph, (echo), fell in love with him when he gazed in the water, and was only able to repeat what he said. He turned in to a flower (the narcissus).

Theseus - can't remember - sorry!
Reply:Prometheus-responsible for stealing fire from the gods and giving it to mankind, therefore attributing technology to this character

Icarus- Icarus and Daedelus, the two who built wings made of feathers and wax. Icarus flew too close to the sun and the wax melted causing them to fall from grace and into the sea. Icarus is the embodied tale of people who get lost in the idea and take it too far ending in disaster (think of mad scientist)

Narcissus- was inlove with his own beauty (ie, the term narcisistic) generally thought to personify those who have over done arrogance. He gazed too long into a pool of water and fell in, drowning. A waternymph tried to come to his aid but was only able to give him life as a flower or something like that, but then all the god tales end with the human escaping the god or magic creature by turning into a plant.

Phaeton- sone of Helios. Something about learning to drive the sun chariot that travelled the sky. Blah blah blah, learning how to drive, killed a few people and destroyed a few things...Zeus killed him to stop the rampage...I think.

Thesseus- the slayer of the minotaur. The only way he passed this challenge of the gods was because the daughter of Minos? gave him a golden ball of string that kept Thesseus from becoming lost in the maze the minotaur dwelled after the beast was slain. He married this heroine and then later left her on a desserted island alone. Mercury swooped in and saved the new bride and she and Mercury/Hermes lived happily ever after.
Reply:This might take awhile, but let me try...

Prometheus - gave fire to man, and in so doing, allowed man to become intelligent (the fire of knowledge or enlightenment, etc.); punished for doing this by being bound to a rock where a bird would show up each day to eat his liver and his liver would grow back each night

Icarus - son of Daedalus; the two of them were stuck on an island, and Deadalus figured out a way to make some wings with wax and feathers; Icarus didn't listen to how his dad told him to fly; he went low over the sea and the water got his wings wet, and then tried to fly closer towards the sun to dry them out; unfortunately, when he got closer to the sun, the heat melted the wax on his wings and icarus plunged to his death

Narcissus - 'beautiful' man who loved to look at his own reflection; bent over a pool of water, saw his reflection, and dove in trying to find himself; the nymph Echo fits in there somewhere, but I can't remember exactly; one of the godesses was sorry he died, and named the Narcissus flower after him

Phaethon - son of Helios, the Sun God, who wanted to drive his father's chariot to prove to his friends that he was the son of a god; Helios finally relents, and he drives his father's horses and sun chariot across the sky; Phaethon flew low over his village to show off to his friends, but the heat incinerated the entire village and turned it into a desert; Phaethon flew too high, making part of the earth cold and covered with snow/ice; he then over-corrected and went too low again, burning Africa and making the people black and creating the deserts in North Africa; Zeus killed him with a lightening bolt to stop the runaway chariot

Theseus - performed six 'labors' of strength, cunning, heroism, and resourcefulness by tricking a bunch of bad people at their own games; traveled to the labrynth and slew the minotaur; he got out of the labrynth by following the string he trailed behind him as he walked; one of his sons hid in the Trojan Horse...
Reply:which one, maybe you could just do some reading?

Narcicuss and Echo?

I have to compare/ contrast Narcicuss and Echo so..what are some similarities and differences between them? I think they both have an unrequited love (echo narcissus and Narciccus himself) and both ended up dying for love.. thats all i have so far.. so help. thanks

Narcicuss and Echo?
Narcissus

A beautiful young man who fell hopelessly in love with his image in a pond as a punishment from the goddess Nemesis for rejecting the nymph Echo. Narcissus faded away as he sat there watching himself, and was turned into the flower of the same name.

Another version tells us that he killed himself when he realised that touching his image only blurred it.

Echo

Oread (mountain nymph) who lived at Mount Parnassus and by accident caught Zeus with another nymph. When asked by Hera if she had seen him, Echo was too afraid to betray Zeus, and lied, saying she had not. When Hera realized the nymph had lied to her, she cursed Echo by making her capable only to repeat what others said.

Pan loved Echo, but in vain. The nymph fell desperately in love with Narcissus who only loved himself, and her distress made her wither away, leaving only her voice.
Reply:Your idea about unrequitted love seems to fit well. Have you tried breaking that down further?

The story is about Narcicuss, singularly I belive. Echo ditches Pan in her quest for love, and Narcicuss himself gets captivated by simply looking in a mirror. So, in addition to Unrequited love, could this also be obsession? Absorption?

Echo and Narcicuss are similar in the way that they are both doomed to a never ending loop- Narcicuss and his reflection must stare at eachother untill the end of time. Echo is stuck repeating what is said to her. So in a way, both are Trapped.

A difference is this, Narcicuss if focussed wholy on himself, while Echo is forced to focus on others.

I hope this gave you some food for thought.

Greek Mythology Help?

Pandora's Box

Demeter and Persephone

Narcissus and Echo

Theseus and the Minotaur

Pyramus and Thisbe

Questions that need to be answered about each myth.

1) What natural phenomenon if any, does this myth explain?

2) What morals or social values does this myth teach?

3) What category does this myth fit into and why?

I really need help with these questions for my homework, I've searched them on the internet but I can't make sense on what the websites are saying. Please don't copy and paste the websites.

Greek Mythology Help?
So you are getting info for your homework on the internet. Normally, I would say no and walk away, but I just completed a mythology research paper and I'm in a good mood.

I have never read Narcissus sorry!

Pandora's Box:

1) This myth talks about how evil came into this world, and it all came in by curiosity.

2) This myth teaches you to keep your hands to yourself, like the expression "Curiosity killed the cat"

3) It fits into creation myths because it shows you how all the evil came.

Demeter %26amp; Persephone:

1) In a sense, this myth could explain love.

2) It shows you to be more careful.

3) This myth fits into the category of seasons, and fertility

I can't recall the Theseus myth, perhaps I am confusing myself with one the Labors of Hercules with the Minotaur, where he threw it to Athenes, where I beleive it became Theseus' problem.

Pyramus %26amp; Thisbe:

1) This myth explains that nothing should keep you away from your love, even if it means death.

2) True love beats parental control.

3) It too is a love myth, and in a way a death myth. Not only that, but a creation myth, from when their blood hits the mulberry tree and the color turns from white to dark purple.

I hope this helps a bit.

Got to do math Homework now!

Reply:I've alway though Demeter and Persephone explained summer and winter. Winter is the length it is because of the amount of pomegranate seeds Persephone ate (and the length of time she has to stay in the underworld) and summer is when Demeter gets to be with her daughter.
Reply:Pandoras box explains that temptation is hard to resist and that curiousity hurt the cat not killed.

Demeter and Phersephone shows that you always listen toi your mother no matter if the president offers you something to eat.

Narcissus is another example among several of a beautiful young man who spurned sex and died as a result. As such, his myth has much in common with those of Adonis and Hippolytus. In the Roman poet Ovid's retelling of the myth, Narcissus is the son of the river god Cephissus and the nymph Liriope. Tiresias, the seer, told his parents that the child "would live to an old age if it did not look at itself." Many nymphs and girls fell in love with him but he rejected them. One of these nymphs, Echo, was so distraught over this rejection that she withdrew into a lonely spot and faded until all that was left was a plaintive whisper. The goddess Nemesis heard the rejected girls prayers for vengeance and arranged for Narcissus to fall in love with his own reflection. He stayed watching his reflection and let himself die. It is quite possible, however, that the connection between Echo and Narcissus was entirely Ovid's own invention, for there is no earlier witness to it.

Echo

by Micha F. Lindemans

The chief god Zeus had many affairs with both mortals and gods, much to his wife's dislike. While he pursued his amours, it was Echo's duty to beguile Hera's attention by incessantly talking to her. Hera discovered the ruse and as punishment, she made Echo always repeat the voice of another.

Echo fell in love with a vain youth named Narcissus, who ignored her. Narcissus found a pool of water and stared at his lovely reflection until he died. Echo watched him until she pined away, now her voice remains, repeating the last few things people say.

The Greek version of the story of Echo (the above is of Roman origin [Ovid]) is as follows:

Echo was a very beautiful and musical nymph. She could sing and play many instruments. She lived deep in the woods and denied the love of any man or immortal. She therefore attracted the hatred and anger of many, including the god Pan whose love she turned down. Pan caused his followers the shepherds to kill Echo and tear her to pieces that were subsequently scattered far and wide. Gaia, the Earth goddess, received the pieces in her bosom and thus Echo, scattered now all over the earth, retained her voice and talents answering or imitating every sound or voice.

ECHO is a wood nymph who falls for a mortal, Narcissus. HE could care less about her and was so into himself. HE saw his reflection in water and eventually died by drowning.

The last thing he heard was echos voice. I think this expains why we have echos today. moral don't so self absorbd.

Demeter's myths expain why we have seasons. when persephone lives with hades that is winter. Spring when she retruns, fall when she is getting ready to leave. Moral don't take food form strangers. Thats how she was tricked to spend time in underworld.

pandora had a box that she was never to open no matter what. one day she did and before she could close the lid again evil got out. ONE THING that remained in the jar was hope. Explains to be careful what u are curious about. geuess that the moral too.
Reply:What I do know is that Narcissus and Echo were punished by the gods for their large ego. Narcissus loved himself, foresaking everyone else, even his family. He would stare at his reflection in a lake for hours until he was sentenced to live for eternity as a beautiful flower. Forever confined to the earth's soil. Echo's story is similar, he loved his voice so much that he lost control of his ego until one day the gods decided to take his voice from him and cause it to forever bounce between the mountains.
Reply:Pandora's Box

1. It released evil into the world

2. Man's ulimate, deep-seeded, curiosity and the consequences that come after.
